Job summary

Arthur J. Glatfelter YMCA in York seeks a Part-Time Assistant Teacher to foster a fun, caring environment where children learn, play and grow. You will support curriculum, supervise activities, and partner with families to ensure a high-quality experience.

The role emphasizes safety, developmentally appropriate activities, and positive collaboration with staff and parents. Shifts include mornings, afternoons, and as-needed hours.

Qualifications

• Must meet DHS-specified qualification options for Assistant Group Supervisor.
• All options require HS diploma/GED; additional child care/special education/human services credits or experience.

Responsibilities

• Implements curriculum and runs activities per guidelines.
• Supervises children and classroom; ensures safety and ADA accommodations as needed.
• Guides developmentally appropriate play and routines for children.
• Performs ongoing observations to tailor activities to groups and individuals.
• Provides positive feedback to redirect challenging behaviors.
• Engages parents, conducts conferences, and invites volunteers to support YMCA programs.
• Maintains site, equipment, and safety procedures; completes required records.
• Attends family nights, staff meetings, and training; communicates with supervisor.

Education

High school diploma or GED + 30 credit hours in ECE/Human Services

High school diploma or GED + 600+ hours of secondary training (Sec. 3270.31(c))

High school diploma or GED + 15 college credits + 1 year child care experience

High school diploma or GED + post-secondary training (Sec. 3270.31(c))

High school diploma or GED + 2 years child care experience
