340 OKLAHOMA STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH seeks a part-time Breastfeeding Peer Counselor in Lawton to support WIC families with breastfeeding information and encouragement. This temporary role offers Mon-Fri, 8-5, with pay up to $17.81 per hour based on education and experience.

Responsibilities include counseling mothers at certification, promoting breastfeeding, sharing approved materials, and documenting visits in clinic records within 24 hours.

Qualifications

• Effective communication skills required.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Orientation for WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor as per OSDH.
• Completion of basic Breastfeeding Educator Course within one year.
• Breast pump training required.
• Participation in scheduled Breastfeeding Peer Counselor in-services.

Responsibilities

• Support WIC mothers during a normal breastfeeding experience.
• Counsel new WIC mothers at certification.
• Promote breastfeeding to WIC participants.
• Address specific concerns and correct misinformation.
• Share WIC-approved breastfeeding educational materials with participants.
• Counsel WIC mothers over the telephone and in person at scheduled intervals.
• Follow up on participants according to protocol and document in records.
• Be available outside usual clinic hours if needed.
