Job summary

CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit, is seeking a part-time Wellness Mentor to lead and model wellness, recovery and peer support for members and community. The role collaborates with the Wellness Center Manager to plan, implement, and maintain daily center operations and referrals.

Ideal candidates have strong English communication, basic computer skills, and knowledge of community resources. Certification within a year is required for some placements; bilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• MUST have a High School Diploma/GED.
• Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP), Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), or equivalent peer certification preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Proficient in basic computer skills, including using email and internet applications, managing documents, and virtual communication platforms.
• Knowledge of wellness, the mental health system, and community resources in the region.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
• Willingness to disclose mental health and/or addiction services and speak openly on their recovery.
• Proven ability to engage and support individuals with mental health diagnoses using empathy, professionalism, and trauma‑informed practices.
• Lived Experience: CSPNJ prioritizes hiring people who use their own life experience dealing with mental health/substance use issues to inspire and support others.

Responsibilities

• Support the Agency mission by meeting and identifying needs of the local community and make connections with other relevant organizations and agencies.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community resources and agencies to ensure members have access to robust support such as referrals to substance use recovery agencies, food banks, financial support agencies, and more.
• Collaborate with manager and members to plan and conduct all aspects of day-to-day operations of the center.
• Offer information and referral to members regarding wellness and recovery, peer support and community services.
