Job summary

SUNY Niagara has a part-time Technical Assistant opening in the Welding department of the Business & STEM division. The role focuses on maintaining and setting up welding and machining equipment, ensuring safety and reliability during class times, and assisting students and faculty with technical needs.

You will help manage laboratories and storage, perform routine maintenance, and conduct safety inspections and risk assessments.

Qualifications

Associates degree in Welding Technology, Mechanical Technology, Engineering Science or a Welding Certification.
Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing welding equipment, including MIG, TIG, and stick welders.
Familiarity with mechanical tools and equipment commonly used in welding and fabrication.

Responsibilities

Maintaining and preparing all laboratory spaces, equipment and materials for laboratory classes in Welding.
Perform routine maintenance.
Assist instructors and students with equipment setup and breakdown, troubleshooting, and usage during lab sessions.
Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments of technology laboratories and equipment and address potential safety hazards or malfunctioning equipment.
Provide training and guidance to staff and students on safe laboratory practices and use of equipment.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
