Responsibilities

  • Dispenses drugs, chemicals, and pharmaceutical preparations.
  • Fills and labels all drug containers issued to services from which medication is to be administered.
  • Inspects all pharmaceutical supplies on all services.
  • Maintains an approved stock of antidotes and other emergency drugs.
  • Dispenses all narcotic drugs and maintains their perpetual inventory.
  • Specifies both quality and source for the purchase of all drugs in conjunction with central bids.
  • Provides information concerning medications to physicians, interns, and nurses.
  • Charges for drugs and pharmaceutical supplies to patients.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all records as they pertain to the patient.
  • Maintains adequate control over the requisitioning and dispensing of all drugs and pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Maintains the facilities of the department.
  • Cooperates in teaching programs to ancillary professionals.
  • Assist in implements the decisions of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic reports on the progress of the department for submission to the administration of the hospital.
  • Maintains State and Federal required records so as to maintain adequate accountability and control as stated in policy #32.
  • Provides direction in accordance with issues identified regarding patient satisfaction.
  • Assumes responsibility for pharmacy services, policies and procedures, and their administration in accordance with established policies of the institution.
  • Provides in-depth pharmacologic and pharmacokinetic consults (verbal or written) when requested or when appropriate.
  • Coordinates pharmacy activities with other ancillary professional departments.
  • Assumes responsibilities for the department’s continuous, effective operation and for the improvement of its performance.
  • Orients and provides in-service training and education to all persons in the department.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs pharmacy policies and procedures in accordance with the established policies of the hospital that guide and support the provision of services.
  • Develops, institutes, and maintains a pharmacy Quality Improvement Program.

Job DetailsJob Location: Eagleville Hospital - Eagleville, PA 19403This position reports to the Director of Pharmacy. In addition to the on-site activity, assist in the teaching of students and house staff where applicable, devotes a adequate amount of time to assist the Director of Pharmacy in administrative activities. As required, 24 hours will be available a day, seven days a week via home phone or beeper. Frequently contact the administrative complement of the hospital as well as physicians, nurses, patients and other professional personnel. Participates in committees, which require poise, and the ability to communicate both administratively and professionally. Regularly works with confidential information.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Graduate of Pharmacy School. Licensed to practice in pharmacy in the state where the pharmacy is located. Through training and/or experience, possess necessary knowledge to provide oversight of medication regimens for the patient populations treated in the facility including a knowledge of dosing for specific age populations. A minimum of three years of hospital experience is preferred.
