Job summary

Loyola University Maryland is seeking a part-time Environmental Technician to maintain cleanliness and safety across its Baltimore campus. Position Summary

Part‑time, Weekday Environmental Technician – Loyola University Maryland.

Responsibilities
  • Operate equipment to finish and clean floors and carpets.
  • Perform custodial care of buildings, offices and furniture: clean walls, furniture, windows, tiles, fixtures, equipment and floors.
  • Vacuum in all buildings and dust and polish specified areas and furnishings.
  • Clean all types of floor surfaces.
  • Clean and disinfect bathroom areas and replenish supplies.
  • Wash furnishings, walls, windows, tile, fixtures, equipment and floors.
  • Clean chalkboards, erasers and chalk trays and replenish chalk.
  • Clean and dust bulletin cases, pictures, trophy cases, fixtures, door frames and related furnishings.
  • Clean elevator door tracks.
  • Perform all cleaning tasks in a timely and complete manner.
  • Collect and remove trash and recyclables.
  • Use an auto scrubber to remove soil and spills from non‑carpeted floors.
  • Report malfunctions, unsafe conditions, repairs and damages of equipment, fixtures and buildings to supervisor.
  • Pick up, distribute, monitor and secure supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain open and responsive relationships with the college community.
  • Shampoo carpets or use carpet stain remover and gum remover to eliminate carpet stains and gummy soil.
  • Operate burnish or spray buff equipment to finish floors.
  • Operate floor care equipment including floor scrubbers and carpet extractors.
  • Clean and refill floor drains.
  • Clean interior and exterior of laundry washers and dryers.
  • Perform setup for special and athletic events.
  • Sweep or shovel snow from buildings, entrances and steps.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including attendance of required training.
Education and Experience
  • Required: High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Less than 12 months.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Use and operate floor and carpet care equipment.
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment maintenance.
  • Willingness to learn to operate assigned tools and housekeeping equipment.
  • Work with chemicals and cleaning solutions and their application.
  • Lifting and transporting supplies.
  • Read and follow instructions and Safety Data Sheets.
  • Follow all safety requirements and work in personal protective equipment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Work effectively under general supervision.

Physical/Environmental Demands

Work involves regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces, and lifting or carrying moderate to very heavy items (20‑30 to 35+ pounds). The environment exposes the employee to dirt, dust, chemicals, fumes, cold, heat, noise, vibrations and dampness, possibly causing non‑disabling injuries.
