Floor Care Technician
Job Summary
Performs various routine floor care maintenance functions including scrubbing, refinishing, buffing floor surfaces, and other general housekeeping duties to provide a clean, safe, and pleasant environment for students, staff and visitors.
Essential Role Responsibilities
- Perform floor maintenance functions according to standard techniques and procedures under the guidance of the Environmental Service Supervisor and Manager.
- Operate equipment such as automatic scrubbers, floor machines, wet/dry vacuums, pressure wash equipment, and carpet extractors.
- Provide daily preventive maintenance on all floor care equipment.
- Perform light machine maintenance on automatic scrubbers, floor machines, wet/dry vacuums, pressure wash equipment, and carpet extractors.
- Transport floor equipment and supplies to designated campus areas when required.
- Maintain floors and carpets: vacuum and shampoo carpets, clean and buff or burnish floors, strip and refinish floors, wet mop and dry mop floors, and machine scrub or recoat floors according to schedule.
- Complete furniture breakdown and set‑up while maintaining floors and carpets in assigned areas.
- Perform environmental service duties such as dusting, trash removal, and cleaning in areas including classrooms, labs, restrooms, conference and meeting rooms, office areas, and stairwells.
- Communicate with coworkers to achieve a good working relationship and knowledge of area schedules and specific needs.
- Report minor repair requests in assigned areas.
- Maintain a daily written schedule of activities performed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Required
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One year of floor care technician experience in an institutional or commercial environment (preferred).
- One year of general housekeeping experience in an institutional or commercial environment (preferred).
- Knowledge of floor chemicals and equipment operation.
- Pleasant and professional demeanor.
- Service‑oriented and flexible attitude.
- Regular attendance is essential.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Consideration of sustainability initiatives in environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.
Physical Demand Summary
- Floor to overhead, lift 50 lbs., and walk 10 feet.
- Knowledge of protective clothing and safety equipment.
- Exposure to noise, cleaning chemicals, inclement weather, dust, chemicals, and ladder or scaffold work.
- Mandatory overtime for special events such as commencement and other required occasions.
