Job summary

WindBorne Systems is seeking a part-time Launch Operator to support our balloon launches in the Bay Minette, Alabama area. The role is outdoors, data-driven, and involves hands-on assembly and operation of prototype balloon hardware.

You will work 10–20 hours weekly, evenings and weekends as needed, coordinating with engineers to ensure safe, timely launches. Prior balloon or field-launch experience is a plus, with US citizenship required for site access.

Qualifications

• Strict adherence to safety procedures and field protocol.
• Excellent verbal and written communication while coordinating with engineers.
• Comfortable using hand tools and troubleshooting prototype balloon hardware.

Responsibilities

• Launch high-altitude weather balloons per safety procedures.
• Operate and troubleshoot prototype balloon units in the field.
• Collaborate with engineers during evening launches; stay solutions-focused.
• Assemble launch rigs, balloon units and related hardware on-site.
• Set up and break down launch sites; secure equipment and ensure readiness.
• Maintain inventory of balloon supplies and compressed gas cylinders.
