Job summary

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties, Sumner, WA, is seeking a Part-Time Visual Arts Instructor to lead engaging art classes for youth and adults, fostering creativity and technical growth. Responsibilities include planning lessons, teaching drawing, painting, ceramics, and more; maintaining a safe, organized workspace; and communicating progress to the arts director.

Requires 5+ years in performing arts training and 1–2 years teaching; background checks required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• 5+ years of formal performing arts training or comparable experience.
• 1-2 years of experience as a performing arts teacher and/or teaching assistant.
• Ability to teach preschool and beginning-level visual arts classes.
• Pass Background and Reference checks (WA State Fair Chance Act).
• Committed to valuing diversity and promoting an inclusive environment.
• Willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on day one.

Responsibilities

• Teach and demonstrate sound technical and artistic principles to program participants.
• Create class lesson plans within the allotted budgeted hours with progression appropriate for ages and abilities.
• Attend and contribute to art exhibitions and YMCA events.
• Effectively communicate program information and student progress to youth/arts director and members.
• Maintain a clean, organized classroom and store art supplies properly after each class.
