Job summary

New York Edge is seeking a Visual Arts Specialist to organize, lead, and promote interest in arts activities for NYC students in after-school programs. Instructors utilize and adapt NY State Arts Learning Standards to create engaging activities that encourage participation.

The role requires following a curriculum, delivering engaging lessons in visual arts, and preparing materials for class during 9-15 hours per week, Monday through Friday 2:30 pm–5:30 pm in Queens, NY.

Qualifications

• Must be knowledgeable and skilled in various Visual Arts and have prior experience teaching youth.
• Must be able to follow a curriculum
• Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Establish rules for behavior and maintain order in the classroom.
• Organize, lead, and promote interest in visual arts activities.
• Organize performance groups and direct rehearsals.
• Set clear objectives for lessons and communicate them to students.
• Adapt activities to meet students' needs and interests.
