Job summary

New York Edge seeks a passionate Visual Arts Specialist to organize, lead, and promote interest in arts activities within after-school and summer programs in New York City public schools.

You will follow the New York State Arts Learning Standards, collaborating with staff to create engaging activities, manage classrooms, and guide students toward a final art project while maintaining a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent; some college preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of visual arts experience.
• At least 1 year of teaching/coaching experience.
• Passion for New York Edge's mission and youth development.
• Candidates able to lead multiple activities are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establish and enforce behavior rules and classroom order.
• Organize, lead, and promote interest in arts activities and projects.
• Direct rehearsals for performance groups.
• Set clear objectives for lessons and communicate them to students.
• Adapt activities to student needs and evaluate equipment and facilities.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
• Explain techniques and safety procedures to participants.
• Assess activities to ensure desired results.
