Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced emergency department in the Richmond area. The role includes triage, nursing care, basic diagnostics, and assisting DVMs with patient management.

Pay range is $19.00–$28.00 per hour, with advancement through our competency leveling system. Weekend and holiday shifts are required, and the hospital offers comprehensive health benefits and growth opportunities within Mars Veterinary Health.

Qualifications

• Nursing care for emergency patients according to hospital standards.
• Assist DVM with triage and case management in a fast-paced ED.
• Provide client communication and education as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to emergency patients.
• Report patient signalment, problems and plan during rounds.
• Understand meds, monitor responses and administer as prescribed.
• Perform phlebotomy and basic diagnostics.
• Assist with anesthesia/monitoring for ASA I or II patients.
• Remain current on RECOVER CPR guidelines.

Pay:

$19.00 - $28.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.

Weekends and holidays required

Our VeterinaryAssistantstriage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and goingoverestimatesas needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs,labwork,etc), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, andhandlingclient communication.

As an EmergencyVeterinaryAssistant,you will:

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.

• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.

• Understand classification ofcommonly usedmedications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.

• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.

• Perform phlebotomy.

• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.

• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.

• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines anddemonstratesproficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
