Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced emergency department for mid-shift and weekends. The role involves triaging emergency cases, assisting DVM, and performing diagnostics, ICU/inpatient setup, discharges, and client communication.

As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you will provide nursing care, report on rounds, monitor medications, perform phlebotomy, and assist with anesthesia.

Qualifications

• Experience in veterinary emergency care preferred.
• Able to triage emergency cases and assist DVM.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to emergency patients per hospital standards.
• Report patient signalment, problems, and plans during rounds.
• Understand medication classifications and monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications by appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy and physical exams.
• Assist with anesthesia and monitoring for ASA I/II patients.
• Stay current with RECOVER CPR guidelines.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department for mid-shit and weekends!

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork , etc ), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant , you will:

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
