Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Part-Time Operations Labor Manager to direct and coordinate union labor, equipment, and resources across multiple terminals in the Pacific Northwest. The role requires independent judgment, strong leadership, and strict adherence to safety and union agreements with a variable part-time schedule.

Ideal candidates have proven labor-relations experience, knowledge of OSHA/regulatory standards, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; equivalent management experience considered.
• Previous experience managing union labor preferred.
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC card.
• Current CPR certification.
• Working knowledge of terminal operations, cargo stowage and stability, and local union dispatching rules.
• Demonstrated leadership experience.
• Familiarity with computerized terminal operating systems.
• Knowledge of applicable safety and accident-prevention codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Hire, assign, evaluate, discipline, and terminate labor personnel per policy and agreements.
• Direct foremen and other operational personnel based on needs.
• Interpret and enforce collective bargaining agreements day-to-day.
• Investigate safety incidents and labor complaints; report to senior management.
• Determine workforce and equipment needs to execute vessel/terminal plans.
• Manage deployment of labor and equipment to meet targets.
• Monitor productivity and implement corrective actions.
• Verify equipment/gear readiness before operations.
• Plan and conduct daily safety meetings with HSE.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and PPE.
• Coordinate with vessel personnel, customers, agents, terminal staff, and labor.
• Submit required reports (shift production, payroll, safety, damage) on time.
• Perform additional supervisory duties as required.
