Sylvan Learning Center in Glendale, CA is hiring part-time tutors to teach Math up to Algebra 2, Reading/Writing up to 12th grade, and Test Prep. Instructors build rapport with students and deliver engaging sessions with no lesson plans.

Requirements include a four-year degree (or equivalent), preferred teaching credentials, and 1–2 years of teaching experience. Compensation ranges from $17 to $20 per hour with flexible scheduling and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• Four year degree or equivalent.
• State or provincial teaching credentials (preferred).
• Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience (preferred).
• Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension up to 5th grade.
• Knowledge of basic arithmetic up to 5th grade.
• Math knowledge up to Algebra 2, Calculus and Statistics.
• Reading knowledge up to 12th grade writing and comprehension.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, interact with, and motivate students.
• Reward students for completed assignments.
• Evaluate and document student progress.
• Communicate student needs to the center director.
• Inspire and develop a rapport with students.
• Establish a fun learning environment.
• Maintain a positive attitude and enthusiasm for teaching and Sylvan.
