Job summary

Aims Community College is seeking tutors for math, science, and writing/study skills for the Spring 2026 semester. The role focuses on learner-centered support, boosting student confidence, and guiding independent learning in collaboration with the Program Coordinator.

Responsibilities include in-person and remote sessions, maintaining documentation, and participating in tutor trainings and observations. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

Job Description

This tutor position focuses on learner‑centered support, boosting students' confidence and success. You'll guide students in developing independent learning skills while maintaining effective communication with the Program Coordinator. The role emphasizes maintaining accurate documentation and actively participating in tutor trainings and observations. Additionally, you'll create a learner‑centered environment and promote the use of campus resources. Flexibility is expected, and adherence to Aims Community College's student and staff policies is required. Occasional travel may be required.

Academic Support & Tutoring

We are looking for a math tutor, a science tutor, and a writing/study skills tutor for a few hours a week for the Spring 2026 semester starting in January.

Job Duties

• Conduct individual, group and/or drop‑in in‑person and remote tutoring sessions for assigned courses.
• Approach tutoring with a learner‑centered focus to increase students’ confidence and success.
• Have strong oral and written skills. Communicate with tutoring supervisor to ensure effective tutoring methodologies. Understand and support the student‑teacher relationship.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of tutoring sessions.
• Guide students on how to develop active and independent learning skills.
• Adapt strategies for specific learning differences.
• Attend and participate in regular one‑on‑one and group training sessions.
• Stay up to date on current trends in tutoring practices in content area.
• Have experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
• May attend courses being tutored to promote services or provide support in the classroom.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the tutoring supervisor.
• Adhere to student and staff policies as determined by Aims Community College.

Work Hours

• Part‑time, must have availability to work weekdays and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

• BA/BS in related field or combination of equivalent education and/or experience or certification in related area.
• Teaching, tutoring or work experience in related content area.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students and colleagues.

Preferred Qualification

• Bilingual in Spanish
