Responsibilities

  • Effectively delivers tutoring services to students at scheduled times (may be individual or group sessions).
  • Assists students with the development of study skills necessary for post-secondary education.
  • Keeps regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions.
  • Monitors and reviews student work; personalizes tutoring strategies for different learning styles.
  • Facilitates the learning process by encouraging students to take responsibility for their progress.
  • Interacts with LSC staff to obtain course syllabi or materials and develop tutoring materials.
  • Deliver feedback to staff regarding student progress.
  • Continues professional education through research of relevant material.
  • May assist with additional duties as needed (covering Courtesy Counter, answering phones, organizing materials).
  • Completes and submits required documents in a timely manner.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and other duties as assigned.

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Tutors and instructs students and community members who needlearning assistance in assigned discipline(s) and study skills.Primary responsibilities include providing tutoring and relatedservices, and providing and atmosphere that is conducive to andencourages learning. Responsible for the general areas of studentacademic support, institutional service, and professionaldevelopment.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  1. Effectively delivers tutoring services to students at scheduledtimes (may be individual or group sessions). Posts and maintains aweekly schedule of available hours for student appointments

  2. Assists students with the development of study skills necessaryfor post-secondary education

  3. Keeps regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions

  4. Monitors and reviews student work. Modifies and personalizestutoring strategies to accommodate the different learning stylesand needs

  5. Facilitates the learning process by encouraging students totake responsibility for their progress

  6. Interacts with LSC staff and/or faculty to obtain any necessarycourse syllabi or materials, and to develop tutoring materials insupportof the course

  7. Deliverfeedback as appropriate to staff and/or facultyregarding student progress

  8. Continues professional education through research and reviewofrelevant material relating to the assigned subject matter

  9. May assist with additional duties as needed, for example,covering the Courtesy Counter, answering phones, organizingmaterials, checking out resources, and performing other duties asassigned

  10. Completes and submits required documents in an accurate andtimely manner

  11. Actively participates in departmental meetings as required

  12. Responsible for other reasonable related duties asassigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably todo the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending;carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; ordriving an automobile. No special physical demands are required toperform the work.


WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:


  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment

  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed tocarry out the functions of the position

  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimalexposure to safety hazards


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Transcripts and/or a proficiency test may be required

  • Bachelor's degree or higher


Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $21.19
