Responsibilities
Summary
The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring that transportation vehicles are safe and well-maintained.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip inspections of all vehicles.
- Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) at the end of each trip or shift, reporting safety defects.
- Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify the Transportation Manager of issues.
- Verify that vehicles have necessary safety equipment; report issues before trips.
- Complete all paperwork accurately and submit reports per policies.
- Secure detainees properly before departure and during transport; obtain and complete all necessary documentation.
- Follow all safety laws, regulations, policies, and procedures during transportation.
- Report accidents immediately, providing detailed verbal and written information.
- Deliver vehicles for servicing and pick them up when ready.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; possess applicable state requisites.
- Three (3) years of experience handling prisoners or as a Law Enforcement, Corrections, Detention, or Military Police Officer.
- At least 21 years old.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Valid U.S. driver license.
- 80 hours of verified, certified driver's training from an approved provider.
- State Firearms License.
- State Security Guard License.
- Completed an approved training program in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military with certification.
- Clean driving record with no preventable accidents or suspensions for the past three years.
- Pass a company and DOT drug and alcohol test.
- Ability to work overtime and travel extended periods with overnight stays.
- Handle physical and mental stress associated with extended hours.
- Regularly report to work on time and be physically alert during shifts.
- Work up to 16 hours within a 24-hour period.
- Be mature, flexible, and capable of commanding respect from inmates, detainees, and staff.
- Proficient with computers and relevant software.
- May need to obtain a USDOT medical examiner's certificate ('medical card') after hire.
