Responsibilities
Summary

The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees between destinations and ensuring that the vehicles used for transportation activities are safe and properly maintained.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conducts pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip inspections of all vehicles operated.
  • Provides written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) at the end of each trip or shift and reports any safety defects to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Ensures all permits and licenses are in order before beginning a trip and notifies the Transportation Manager of any issues.
  • Ensures vehicles have necessary safety equipment before trips and reports issues to the Transportation Manager.
  • Completes all paperwork accurately and ensures reports are submitted according to policies.
  • Secures detainees properly before departure and during transport, obtaining and completing all necessary documentation.
  • Follows all safety measures and legal regulations during transportation.
  • Contacts safety authorities and facility management immediately in case of an accident, providing detailed reports.
  • Delivers vehicles for servicing and retrieves them when ready.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; valid state requisites for employment.
  • Three (3) years' experience handling prisoners or as a Corrections, Detention, or Military Police Officer.
  • At least twenty-one (21) years old.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Valid U.S. driver license.
  • 80 hours of verified and certified driver's training.
  • State Firearms License.
  • State Security Guard License.
  • Completion of an approved training program in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
  • Clean driving record with no preventable accidents or suspensions for the past three years.
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol tests.
  • Ability to work overtime and travel extended periods with overnight stays.
  • Ability to handle physical and mental stress, work long hours, and be physically alert.
  • Ability to work with computers and relevant software.
  • Possibility to obtain a USDOT medical examiner certificate after hire.
