Operate public transportation vehicles on designated routes on an irregular basis, sometimes as a substitute driver.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Operate public transit vehicles in a safe, efficient, and lawful manner following routes and schedules as assigned.
- Sell bus passes and tokens to passengers.
- Assist elderly and handicapped passengers as needed.
- Enforce rules and policies as necessary, taking proper disciplinary action if necessary.
- Provide information pertaining to City bus routes and schedules when requested.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Represent the City in a professional, trustworthy, and responsible manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a good knowledge of City geography.
- Must know and follow traffic and road laws as they apply to a motor coach.
- Must be able to count money and make change.
- Must be able to handle money in a responsible manner.
- Must have a good driving record.
- Must be physically able to operate a public transit vehicle in a safe, efficient manner and assist passengers when necessary.
- Must be able to learn BUS routes, policies and procedures and follow them.
- Standard high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Possession of a valid Class C Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement upon employment or obtain CDL permit and complete CDL training for Class B Passenger Endorsement. The City will pay for the cost to enroll in the program ($895) with a signed agreement stating if employment ends before two years the cost will be paid back to the City prorated based on how many months worked.
- Must be able to pass a DOT physical exam and pre-employment drug test.
- Prior experience in the safe operation of public transportation vehicles preferred.
- Have current CPR / First Aid Certification or be able to obtain within six-months of hire date.
- Employees must live within 15 air miles of the Burlington city limits.
