Job summary

Position Title: Part Time Trainer Lifelong Learning Do‑it‑Yourself

Position Type: Part Time staff position (full time/part time)

Part‑time Trainers Required

WCC is currently seeking a Part‑time Trainer who is skilled in Do‑it‑Yourself home projects such as:

  • Plumbing: toilet and sink repairs
  • Basements: how to finish
  • Home improvement and maintenance
  • Safety considerations when making repairs

WCC is also establishing a pool of qualified candidates to be considered when part‑time and/or on‑call trainers are needed to teach non‑credit courses. Needs may become available prior to or during each semester. If a training need arises in an area in which you are qualified, you will be contacted.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide course instruction and demonstration in an in‑person or online class setting.
  • Develop learning plans and appropriate content based on participant needs.
  • Communicate with multiple stakeholders including participants, community partners, and program manager.
  • If teaching online, work with IT to set up and maintain professional and seamless presentation of virtual classes.
  • Support the stated mission, goals, policies and regulations of WCC.
  • Support and abide by the local, state and federal laws that affect the College.
  • Must attend all mandatory orientation sessions and complete online compliance training.
  • Participate in Free College Day biannually.
  • Must teach live in‑person or online for all scheduled class sessions and respond to participant questions and feedback.
  • Must complete and return all official course paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Keep abreast of developments in field of specialization and/or instruction and propose new classes annually to Program Manager.
  • Prepare, develop, and/or revise curricula based on WCC goals and guidelines, as needed.
  • Submit required course outlines, textbooks, instructional materials, and orders for supplies in a timely manner.
  • Utilize technology, including AI‑enabled tools and software where appropriate, to support the effective performance of assigned duties, enhance productivity, improve communication and information management, support decision‑making, and other responsibilities, while ensuring compliance with confidentiality requirements, institutional policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Assist in marketing the class.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Hours / Schedule

Hours vary based on class schedule(s). The terms of employment are based on class enrollment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • If teaching online, must be willing and able to teach virtually while maintaining the high‑quality class experience that participants expect of in‑person classes.
  • Must have demonstrated skills or experience in instruction for adults in a variety of Lifelong Learning.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to develop curriculum relating to these categories and best methods to teach these skills to multi‑generational age ranges.
  • Must be available to teach during various times including evenings or weekends.
  • Ability to use workplace technology relevant to the position, including the capacity to learn and appropriately leverage emerging AI‑supported tools. Ability to assess the accuracy and reliability of AI‑generated content, maintain confidentiality, and apply sound judgment and ethical practices in the use of technology.
