Job summary

Washtenaw Community College is seeking part-time instructors to teach Computer Systems Information Technology (CSIT) credit courses. Opportunities may arise each semester and applicants may be contacted when suitable openings become available.

Minimum qualifications include a regionally accredited master’s degree in a related field or a bachelor’s with substantial professional experience and relevant certification.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in computer information systems, management information systems, information technology, computer science, engineering, business, or another related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree with substantial professional experience directly related to the course content and at least one relevant industry certification.

Washtenaw Community College ( WCC ) is seeking part-time instructors to teach credit courses in Computer Science and Information Technology in the following areas:

Teaching needs may arise each semester. Upon successful submission of your application, resume, and transcripts, you will be considered for teaching opportunities on a course-by-course basis.

Because instructors in Computer Science and Information Technology may teach across multiple disciplines, please review our course offerings before applying.

Essential Duties include:

  • Serve as a discipline specialist by contributing current, discipline-specific knowledge and professional expertise to course delivery.
  • Apply relevant industry experience and emerging practices to help maintain the accuracy, currency, and workplace relevance of course content.
  • Establish and maintain an environment conducive to student learning.
  • Prepare for and instruct assigned course(s) through the use of appropriate learning experiences and materials which provide the opportunity to meet overall course objectives and program goals.
  • Adhere to course syllabus and submission of any data needed to complete Assessment Reports.
  • Evaluate student progress through day to day evaluation, written examinations and overall observation.
  • Prepare and grade exams, assignments, and/or lab reports in a meaningful way to promote continued student growth, returning graded assignments to students in a timely manner, and assigning final grades for all students in the class, meeting all institutional deadlines for completion.
  • Actively support student success through guidance, advising and assisting individual students as needed.
  • Participate in professional activities including, but not limited to, curriculum planning, examination development, textbook selection, program evaluation/revision and other professional planning activities.
  • Participate in the Student Opinion Questionnaire ( SOQ ) process.
  • Maintain levels of professional knowledge and expertise, including compliance training.
  • Utilize technology, including AI-enabled tools and software where appropriate, to support teaching, learning, student engagement, professional responsibilities, institutional service, and other responsibilities. Use such technologies in a manner consistent with academic standards, professional ethics, confidentiality requirements, and compliance with institutional policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Hours/Schedule:

Schedules vary according to class schedules. Part time Instructors may teach up to eight contact hours per week or 120 contact hours per semester. The terms of employment are based on college enrollment and class enrollment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· An earned master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in computer information systems, management information systems, information technology, computer science, engineering, business, or another field related to the course; or an earned bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, together with substantial professional experience directly related to the course content and, where applicable, at least one relevant industry certification.

Demonstrated ability to use technology relevant to the discipline and faculty role, including the capacity to learn and appropriately utilize emerging AI-supported tools. Ability to evaluate the accuracy, reliability, and appropriateness of AI-generated content; maintain confidentiality where required; exercise professional and academic judgment; and uphold ethical standards in the use of technology for teaching, learning, and service.
