Job summary

Lone Star College–Tomball is seeking a PT Trainer, Fitness to lead group fitness classes under the supervision of the Wellness Coordinator. You will guide participants through warm-ups, workouts, and cooldowns while maintaining a safe, engaging environment.

The role requires current CPR/AED/First Aid and a recognized group fitness certification, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work a flexible, on-site schedule in Tomball, TX.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years old
• CPR, AED and first aid certification current
• Current Certified Group Fitness Instructor certification (ACE/ACSM/AFAA) or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Teaches scheduled classes with warm-up, workout, stretching and cooldown.
• Instructs patrons on proper techniques and safe exercise methods.
• Prepares equipment, music and handouts for each class.
• Assists patrons and maintains a positive exercise environment.
• Notifies management of customer and facility needs.
• Ensures safety standards and policies are followed.
• Provides CPR and first aid in emergencies.
• Carries out other reasonable duties as assigned.

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision of the Wellness Coordinator, the PT Trainer, Fitness provides group fitness instruction, monitors and educates patrons on fitness and safety, and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cooldown
2. Instructs Wellness Center patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles
3. Prepares appropriate equipment, music, and handouts for each class
4. Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants
5. Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs
6. Ensures that safety standards are met, and the department and facility policies are adhered to
7. Provides CPR and first aid in emergency situations
8. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Demonstrated working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles
• Demonstrated knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies
• Demonstrated ability to incorporate music, tempo, cueing and rhythm as it applies to choreographed class formats
• Demonstrated ability to be professional and motivate class participants
• Demonstrated ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members
• Physical capability to perform frequent standing, sitting, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, twisting, walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching, overhead reaching, lifting and carrying
• Physically capable of performing heavy lifting (50 pounds)

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS

• Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, phone and other assorted fitness equipment
• Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
• Work is performed in a climate-controlled space with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High School diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must possess current CPR, AED, first aid certification
• Must possess a current Certified Group Fitness Instructor national certification (ACE, ACSM, AFAA) or equivalent

Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $27.14
