Job summary

IAW, Inc. in San Diego, CA is seeking a Part-Time Telephone Operator to provide courteous, efficient call handling during busy periods. The position offers Sunday 3:00pm–11:00pm coverage and additional weekday midday shifts, totaling about 20 hours per week across 3–4 days.

The successful candidate will route calls, log incidents, coordinate with staff, handle collect calls as allowed, and relay emergencies using trunk radio systems per established procedures.

Qualifications

• US citizenship is required.
• High school or an associate’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• 1–2 years of experience as a Telephone Operator.
• Ability to interact respectfully with a diverse user base under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls politely, efficiently and in a friendly manner.
• Route calls appropriately throughout the facility.
• Handle collect calls only when authorized and log time and charges.
• Respond to emergencies and relay information via two-way radios.
• Follow written procedures for bomb threats and other incidents.
• Ensure no unauthorized long-distance or collect calls are made.
• Use radio, overhead paging, pocket paging and code-paging systems as required.
• Assist staff and patients in placing calls, including FTS and other systems.
• Explain to users why calls cannot be completed when needed and log equipment issues.
