Job summary

Indiana University Bloomington's Campus Bus is seeking a part-time bus operator supervisor in Bloomington, IN. The role focuses on filling operator assignments and monitoring daily operations to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

You will document schedule changes, maintain positive relations with riders and the campus community, and ensure adherence to university and transportation regulations. The position pays $22.00 per hour and requires CDL within 6 months, DOT medical certification,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (HSED or GED).
• Ability to pass criminal background check.
• Ability to read a map and know the service area.
• Ability to work safely and efficiently.
• Willingness to pass pre-employment alcohol and drug testing and ongoing testing.
• Ability to learn transit operations and DOT rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Ensures all work assignments are filled by a bus operator; supervisor may drive if needed.
• Monitors radio and assists bus operators as required.
• Documents schedule changes on the daily sheet; ensures accuracy.
• Maintains positive customer relations with passengers and University community.
• Ensures operators comply with laws and regulations for public transportation.
• Monitors safety and mechanical operation of assigned buses.
• Directs operators to use paper timecards when TIME System is unavailable.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by Campus Bus Management.

CAMPUS BUS (BA-BUSS-IUBLA) Since 1966, IU Campus Bus Service has been providing bus service on the Bloomington campus. IU Bloomington's 1,940-acre campus is often considered one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation located in USA Today's #2 Best College Town in America. IU Bloomington is home to close to 43,000 undergraduate and graduate students and over 19,000 faculty, staff, and part-time employees. Campus Bus provides transportation to over 3 million rides a year and operates a 6-route system with approximately 30 buses, 50 bus operators, 4 mechanics, and a management team. It has a long-standing partnership with the local transit system, further extending its reach and resources. Campus Bus is an essential campus service that supports the university's ability to function efficiently and helps to ensure a welcoming environment for its students, employees, and other guests. Campus Bus is a business unit within Auxiliary Business Services (ABS). ABS operates in a shared services model that supports finance, human resources, payroll, and marketing needs of Campus Bus.

Department Specific Responsibilities

• Ensures that all work assignments are filled by a bus operator. If a report operator is not available to drive the bus operators work assignment the supervisor will drive until a replacement driver can report for duty.
• Monitors, on a continuous basis, radio and responds to bus operators who need assistance.
• Documents any schedule changes to the appropriate daily sheet and ensures accuracy of all information.
• Maintains positive customer relations with passengers and other members of the University community both in person and on the phone.
• Ensures that all bus operators assigned to their supervision will comply with all University, local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations applicable to public transportation operations.
• Monitors the safety and mechanical operation of the buses assigned for service.
• In the event that the TIME System is not working, directs bus operators to fill out a physical timecard which is the paper backup for the TIME System.
• Performs other related duties as may be assigned by Campus Bus Management.

EDUCATION

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

• Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University Upon Date of Hire.
• CDL required within 6 months from date of hire. Paid training will be available.
• Completion of the bus operator training program prior to operating a bus in regular service.
• Pass and maintain US Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification.

This position spends most time working in an office. Exposure to occasional adverse environmental conditions such as heat, cold, and inclement weather may occur. The role requires the ability to detect details of objects and the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position requires the ability to pass criminal background check.
