Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Bilingual in Yup’ik and English preferred.
• Experience with students with special needs in a school setting preferred.
• Ability to carry out instructional activities with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to participate in future training programs.
• Ability to communicate with teachers, students and parents.
• First aid/CPR certificate preferred.
• Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
• Duties described below must be carried out.

Responsibilities

• Works with a specific student to present and reinforce lessons planned by the teacher.
• Sets up and operates equipment required by specific students.
• Assists with non-instructional classroom duties (snack, restroom, clothing).
• Assists with supervision during lunch, assemblies, play periods, field trips.
• Alerts the teacher to problems or special information about students.
• Maintains confidentiality and ethical behavior about students and staff.
• Maintains responsibility and positive attitude toward students and staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
