Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Staffs the Equipment Checkout Room and manages requests; checks equipment in/out.
  • Provides basic demonstrations and training on CeLT equipment.
  • Provides basic technical support for CeLT distance learning classrooms.
  • Cleans and sanitizes CeLT spaces and equipment as needed.
  • Completes basic multimedia editing using Adobe Creative Cloud and related tools.
  • Supports center events, including logistics and publicity materials.

LANGUAGE TECH-INSTRUCTIONAL (BL-CLTI-IUBLA)

The Center for Language Technology (CeLT) strives to encourage an environment of excellence within the 50 plus language programs at Indiana University (IU), through technology support, fostering faculty collaboration and professional development, and improving research and instructional capabilities with innovative tools and pedagogy.

The Center for Language Technology (CeLT) seeks a reliable, detail-oriented student assistant to support technology-enhanced teaching, learning, research, and outreach initiatives. The position combines traditional lab support with opportunities to assist with educational technology projects, digital resources, accessibility initiatives, and data organization.

Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Staffs the Equipment Checkout Room, receives and responds to requests for equipment, check equipment in and out to patrons.
  • Provides basic demonstrations to patrons, training on how to operate CeLT equipment.
  • Provides basic technical support for users of the CeLT distance learning classrooms.
  • Cleans and sanitizes the spaces managed by CeLT, both routinely scheduled and as needed.
  • Completes basic multimedia (audio and video) editing projects using Adobe Creative Cloud and other relevant tools.
  • Supports center events, including logistics, planning, and creating publicity materials (social mediaposts, etc.).
  • Assists with video recording of CeLTevents on campus as needed.
  • Assists with collecting, organizing, and visualizing data for reports, projects, and program assessment activities.
  • Support accessibility initiatives by helping review digital content and learning materials for accessibility compliance and usability, with training provided.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Required
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
  • Eligible for the Federal Work-Study Program
Preferred
  • Completed at least a semester of study of a world language class at IU or another college or university
SKILLS
Required
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Interest in and basic experience with technology (audio, video, and computers; some training will be provided)
  • Thoughtful communication skills
  • Team player
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Reliability (punctuality is a must)
  • Ability to see a task through to completion
Preferred
  • Excellent understanding of how information and data can be structured, organized, and represented visually
  • Proficiency with Artificial Intelligence tools for productive and effective workflow

Priority given to those who are majoring in a language program.

Bloomington, Indiana

Starting at $11.00 per hour; higher rates may be offered based on qualifications and performance.

Average of 12 hours per week.
