Job Summary

This position report to the Executive Director for the Center of Academic Advising & Student Success (CAASS). The Center for Academic Advising & Success at Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC) involves assessing student needs, goals, interests and prior academic experiences in order to guide and support students in the design, implementation, and academic support for student success. This part-time (19 hours/week) in person staff position will be responsible for providing students in the Laker Trailblazer Cohort at Clayton State University with academic support assistance and services to support enrollment and retention efforts.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that students who are registered in the Laker Trailblazer program persist and access tutorial support services based on early alerts and assigned cohorts;
  • Provide solutions for the most significant barrier(s) to persistence and degree completion;
  • Collaborate effectively with CAASS Executive Director to reach performance targets that are in alignment with Student Success;
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders that are in alignment with Student Success
  • Facilitates academic support services, workshops, individual and/or small group consultative services designed to assist students with developing and implementing tools to succeed academically;
  • Provide academic coaching, outreach efforts to students who have been identified within a special population (i.e. cohort-partnership groups, at-risk, or academic warning); and ¿ Identify academic support resources for improving students¿ achievement and persistence by connecting Laker Trailblazer students with discipline specific study materials to achieve student success.
Required Qualifications

Entry into the applicant pool requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (Masters preferred) and at least one year of experience working with undergraduate students or young adults in a tutorial, coaching, academic, retention, or career services counseling capacity at a high school level or in a higher education support setting. Demonstrated experience or interest in helping students transfer into and out of bachelor-level degree granting programs. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite.

The successful candidate should possess the desire to provide quality academic support services to students from diverse backgrounds, exhibit a spirit of collegiality, and demonstrates willingness to effectively collaborate and cooperate with other members of the faculty, staff, and administration. Candidate should be willing to work some evenings and weekends when needed. Knowledge of federal regulations such as Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to student accommodation is expected. This position is not virtual.

Preferred Qualifications

Banner and Degree Works experience preferred but not required.

Proposed Salary

Proposed Salary $25.00/ Hour

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Student Success Coordinator in this classification must possess strong customer service, oral, listening, written, and communication skills, as they are required to interact continually with students, parents, staff, and faculty. In addition, the Student Success Coordinator will adhere to strict confidentiality and other ethical standards.
