Job summary

Kern Community College District seeks a part-time Program Technician (19 hours/week) at Bakersfield College to recruit students for college programs. You will assist in coordinating the Outreach Special Projects program under supervision.

Responsibilities include developing goals, preparing reports, gathering data, guiding students, and coordinating job placement activities and campus tours, while maintaining program eligibility and eligibility communications.

Qualifications

• Associate degree with coursework in behavioral science, business or related field and two years of student services experience.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Develop program goals and objectives; recommend policy changes and implementation procedures.
• Prepare a variety of required reports related to the assigned program.
• Gather data including salaries, fringe benefits, projected numbers of students to be served, and expenditures for college programs.
• Identify eligible students; schedule and conduct individual or small group sessions; provide information on the program and eligibility requirements.
• Conduct workshops pertaining to job placement; interview students to determine sites for job placement.
• Arrange campus tours and department visitations; maintain contact with recruited students; interpret placement tests for eligibility purposes.
• Provide orientation regarding the college to community groups; distribute information pertaining to programs and financial aid.
• Assist in completing financial aid forms; monitor students through the financial aid process; monitor academic progress for eligibility.
• Assist students in completing applications to four-year colleges and follow up with the appropriate counselor.
• Establish and maintain contacts with public agencies and employment services; respond to inquiries about the program.
• Attend conferences/workshops related to the program; drive to sites to establish/monitor job placement; participate in job fairs.
• Provide training and direction to student assistants as assigned.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
