CENTER FOR RURAL ENGAGEMENT (BL-CFRE-IUBLA)


Department Information: The Indiana University (IU) Center for Rural Engagement (CRE) improves the lives of Hoosiers through collaborative initiatives that discover and deploy scalable and flexible solutions to common challenges facing rural communities. Working in full-spectrum community innovation through research, community-engaged teaching, and student service, the CRE builds vision, harnesses assets, and cultivates sustainable leadership structures within the communities with which it engages to ensure long-term success.


Job Summary

The Center for Rural Engagement editorial intern will craft engaging project and student spotlight articles that showcase rural Indiana and IU's collaboration with communities in the region.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Researches and gathers information about featured projects, students, and initiatives through interviews and provided materials.

  • Writes compelling articles that highlight successes, personal stories, and impactful projects.

  • Collaborates with team members to ensure content aligns with organizational tone and goals.

  • Edits and proofreads articles to meet high-quality standards.

  • Adheres to deadlines and maintain consistent workflow.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


  • Education: Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.

  • Licenses and Certificates: Possesses a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University Upon Date of Hire.

  • Skills: Strong written and communication skills.

  • Comfortable conducting interviews and synthesizing provided information.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

  • Seeks to acquire knowledge in the area of specialty.

  • Preferred: Familiarity with content management systems (CMS).


Work Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment, campus, and community. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation. This position requires working in a provided office on campus and may include some in-state travel.


Additional Information

This internship offers a valuable opportunity to build a writing portfolio, develop storytelling skills, and gain hands-on experience in content creation.

This is an in-person position.


Salary

Advertised Salary $15.00 per hour


Hourly hires are eligible for a $0.50 raise for each academic semester (Fall/Spring) that they continue with the CRE in their position.


Work Hours

10-15 hours per week depending on the amount of work available.
