  • Writes and edits copy for websites, newsletters, social media, and print materials.
  • Creates and manages social media campaigns for the Experiential Learning initiative.
  • Captures and edits photos for marketing materials, digital platforms, and events.
  • Gathers and develops student stories and testimonials to highlight EL experiences.
  • Designs promotional materials using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
  • Collaborates with Communications and Experiential Learning staff to brainstorm and plan content.
  • Maintains brand consistency and IU style and visual identity.

Job Summary

The Communications Intern will work closely with the Experiential Learning (EL) team to help share stories and opportunities that highlight IU's commitment to hands‑on learning. This position offers a unique opportunity for a creative student, preferably from The Media School or a related communications field, to gain professional experience in digital marketing, content creation, and storytelling within a collaborative, supportive university environment.

Department‑Specific Responsibilities
  • Writes and edits copy for websites, newsletters, social media, and print materials.
  • Creates and manages social media campaigns for the Experiential Learning initiative.

Qualifications
Education
  • Required
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University in good academic standing
  • Preferred
  • Enrolled in The Media School, journalism, communications, or a marketing program
SKILLS
  • Required
  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail
  • Experience with graphic design tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Experience with social media platforms and content creation (Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Ability to take and edit photos
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Experience with short‑form video creation (Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts)
  • Interest in higher education, student success, or experiential learning
Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible for Federal Work Study.2 samples of writing, photography, or design work will be requested at the onset of an interview. Work Location

Bloomington, Indiana This is an in‑person position. Advertised Salary $15.00 per hourWork Hours 10-15 hours per week. Schedule is flexible.
