Job summary

New York Edge in Queens, NY is seeking a STEM Maker & Woodworking Instructor for after-school programs. The role focuses on guiding youth in hands-on woodworking and applied STEM activities, bridging concepts with real building projects, and fostering creativity and safety.

As part-time, you will teach daily activities, build relationships with students, and ensure a welcoming, inclusive environment while emphasizing safety and responsible tool use.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledgeable and skilled in carpentry and small-machine usage.
• Experience instructing and working with children preferred.
• Must be in-person at work.

Responsibilities

• Teach or co-lead daily woodworking and STEM activities.
• Build strong relationships with and among students.
• Organize, lead, and promote interest in woodworking fields.
• Follow safety plans and procedures.
• Establish and maintain safe environments for students using tools and small machinery.
• Establish goals for lessons and communicate them to students.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet students' needs and interests.
• Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants.
