Part-Time STEM Leader Intern – After-School Mentor

Job summary

Oregon State University is seeking eight part-time STEM Leader Intern positions for the STEM Leader Education Program. You will assist with STEM and Maker learning activities for local high school students in Wasco and Hood River Counties, working 2-4 hours per week with support staff from OSU Extension Wasco County 4-H.

Interns complete 6-10 hours of paid training over the school year and help younger children with robotics, invention/maker projects, and programs like Juntitos.

Qualifications

• Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
• High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

Responsibilities

• Attend required trainings (6-10 hours / year) to learn about supporting middle school and elementary youth in STEM projects.
• Work 1-2 days per week in assigned after-school programs.
• Assist youth in STEM projects as directed by the after-school staff.
• Support youth by explaining or modeling tasks and assisting with technology.
• Support youth in developing social-emotional skills by modeling teamwork, asking for help, supporting peers, and self-regulation.
