Job summary

Young STEAMers is a nonprofit organization delivering hands-on STEAM education to children from underserved communities across the San Francisco Bay Area. We provide lesson plans, slides, worksheets, materials, and training to teach engaging classes for ages 4–14 at partner sites.

We seek experienced educators for part-time, on-site roles in Union City, with a flexible afternoon schedule, and opportunities to help students explore science through interactive activities while developing long-term

Qualifications

• Classroom experience working with children ages 4-14.
• Experience as a teacher, substitute teacher, after-school educator, or youth-program leader.
• Interest or experience in science, technology, engineering, art, math, or education.
• Strong classroom-management and communication skills.
• Reliable, professional, organized, and enthusiastic.
• Availability during weekday afternoon hours.
• Reliable transportation and the ability to arrive on time at assigned program locations.
• Ability to complete required training and prepare before teaching each lesson.
• Conversational Spanish is a plus.
• Teaching credential is a plus but not required.
• Long-term availability is strongly preferred.

We bring engaging, inquiry-based science and engineering programs directly to partner schools, libraries, shelters, and community organizations.

Position Description

We are seeking experienced, enthusiastic educators to teach hands-on STEAM classes for students ages 4 -14. This position is ideal for teachers, or substitute teachers and other professionals who enjoy helping children explore science through creative, interactive activities.

Young STEAMers provides the lesson plans, presentation slides, worksheets, materials, and training needed to teach each class successfully. Instructors are assigned to program locations based on their availability and preferred geographic area.

Program Locations

Young STEAMers teaches at partner sites throughout Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and San Francisco counties. Applicants may indicate the cities and regions they are comfortable traveling to and will be considered for assignments in those areas.
