Job summary

San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Inc. (SDVLP) seeks a part-time Staff Attorney to support six restraining order clinics across San Diego County. The role includes advising clients, drafting orders, and supervising pro bono attorneys.

You will train volunteers, develop materials, and coordinate with partners while maintaining a small caseload and staying connected to community services. This onsite, 20-hour/week position emphasizes service to low-income clients and collaboration with diverse

Qualifications

• Must be a member in good standing of the California Bar.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent mentorship and teaching skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Ability to travel to SDVLP’s clinics throughout San Diego County.
• Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
• Proficiency with Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Providing coverage and support at various SDVLP locations across San Diego County.
• Advising clients, including preparing self-represented litigants, for restraining order hearings.
• Drafting restraining orders for self-represented litigants.
• Mentoring, training, and supervising pro bono attorneys drafting requests for restraining orders and representing SDVLP clients in their hearings.
• Recruiting new pro bono attorney volunteers through community outreach and events.
• Developing and maintaining training materials for pro bono attorneys.
• Maintaining a small representation caseload in restraining order cases.
• Coordinating with partner staff and supervising non-attorney staff.
• Managing and compiling data and assisting with narrative reports to funders.
