Job summary

San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program (SDVLP) seeks a part-time Staff Attorney to support restraining order clinics and its program. You will advise clients, draft orders, and supervise pro bono attorneys while engaging in community outreach.

The role requires CA Bar membership, strong communication, teaching abilities, and the capacity to travel to multiple SDVLP clinic locations. Work hours are evenings/weekends as needed, with onsite duties in San Diego.

Qualifications

• Must be a member in good standing of the California Bar.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Mentorship and teaching skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
• Ability to travel to SDVLP clinics as needed.
• Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide coverage at SDVLP locations across San Diego County.
• Advise clients and prepare self-represented litigants for restraining order hearings.
• Draft restraining orders for self-represented litigants.
• Mentor, train and supervise pro bono attorneys.
• Recruit new pro bono attorney volunteers through outreach.
• Develop and maintain training materials for pro bono attorneys.
• Maintain a small representation caseload in restraining order matters.
• Coordinate with partner staff and other programs.
