Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is the sole nonprofit organization created by President Reagan charged with advancing his legacy and principles – individual liberty, economic opportunity, freedom and democracy, peace through strength, and national pride. The Foundation is a non-partisan organization which sustains the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, CA, the Reagan Center for Public Affairs, the Presidential Learning Center, The Air Force One Pavilion, the award-winning Discovery Center, and the Reagan Institute, which carries out the Foundation’s mission in Washington, DC. The Reagan Library houses over 55 million pages of Gubernatorial, Presidential, and personal papers and over 60,000 gifts and artifacts chronicling the lives of Ronald and Nancy Reagan. Job Description

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is seeking a part-time Staff Assistant to work in the main lobby of the Reagan Institute in Washington, D.C. In addition to working with visitors and the duties outlined below, the Staff Assistant will be expected to provide support at the Institute’s special events.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Intake of RRI Guests:
    • Receiving and directing all guests of the Ronald Reagan Institute, providing information about exhibits and Institute programs, greeting guests, and directing them to meetings.
    • Conducting retail sales from a small retail kiosk using handheld point of sale devices.
    • Providing general information to the visiting public about President Reagan and programs and events related to the Foundation and Institute.
  2. Administrative Work:
    • Answering, screening, and transferring all inbound phone calls for the Institute, providing basic information about events and programs as requested.
    • Assisting with incoming/outgoing mail including UPS and FedEx.
    • Tracking daily visitor counts.
    • Notifying the IT and Data Systems Manager of technology issues related to the digital wall, supporting technology, telephones, and retail sales equipment.
    • Providing general administrative and clerical support as needed.
    • Assisting with general meeting support and maintaining office tidiness.
    • Tracking shared space and meeting room usage throughout the Institute.
    • Facilitating Institute deliveries.
  3. Programming and Miscellaneous:
    • Supporting the Institute’s special events in Washington, DC and Simi Valley, CA as directed.
    • Performing other duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements

Must be 18 years of age. The successful candidate must be passionate about President Ronald Reagan’s legacy and principles. High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be reliable, punctual, accountable, and professional. Must have excellent customer service skills, be courteous, efficient, and possess a positive attitude. Ability to work and support colleagues in a close-knit group environment is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and stay updated on the Reagan Institute's operations, projects, and programs. Prior customer service and retail experience is preferred. Basic math and computer skills are required; knowledge of point of sales programs is desired. Staff Assistants must be comfortable with handheld technology as they will provide guests with guidance on the interactive video selections on the digital wall. Work is performed while standing, sitting, or walking with occasional bending, reaching, and lifting/carrying of printed materials and retail products. Weekend days and some evenings may be required for special events.

Salary/Benefits/Location

This is a non-exempt part-time position, approximately 25 hours per week, including weekend days and occasional evenings for special events. Benefits include the opportunity to participate in a retirement program, as well as Paid Time Off (PTO) based on hours accrued per pay period and years of service. This position will be compensated at $17.50 per hour and will be eligible for overtime. The position will be located at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, Washington, DC.
