River Academy of Excellence is seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team for the ESY program for a classroom of 5 students, which will run for the month of July from 8:30-12:30pm Monday through Thursday. Located in the Fox Chapel area of Pittsburgh, PA, River Academy is a small, private school catering to students in grades K-8 who require an increased level of support due to complex educational needs. Our mission is to provide specialized education held to the highest standards, ensuring that each student achieves their full potential in a nurturing and supportive environment. Responsibilities

• Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with a range of disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual and Learning Disabilities, Speech and Language Disabilities, and Physical Disabilities.
• Collaborate with para-professionals, therapists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive educational and therapeutic support to students.
• Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and accommodations to meet the diverse needs of students, including small-group and one-on-one instruction.
• Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued, supported, and engaged in their learning.
• Assess student progress regularly and adjust instructional strategies as needed to ensure academic and social-emotional growth.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for support.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
• Valid teaching certification in Special Education from the state of Pennsylvania.
• Experience working with students with complex educational needs, preferably in a special education setting.
• Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and outside agencies.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and growth.
