Sweetser in Maine seeks an experienced, Maine-certified Special Education Administrator (030 or 035) to provide part-time contracted administrative oversight and consultation for our SPPS. Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, special education, educational leadership, school psychology, social work, counseling, behavioral health, or a closely related field.
  • Maine Department of Education Administrator 030 or Assistant Administrator 035 certification, or eligibility for certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide contracted special education administrative leadership and oversight to support the school's compliance with Maine Department of Education requirements for Special Purpose Private Schools (SPPS), MUSER, IDEA, and applicable state and federal special education requirements.
  • Provide professional supervision and consultation regarding the delivery of special education services and implementation of students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), consistent with the responsibilities of a Maine-certified 030/035 administrator. MUSER specifically identifies supervision of special education services and ensuring services specified in students' IEPs are delivered as responsibilities of the educational administrator.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to school leadership and special education staff regarding IEP development, implementation, documentation, specially designed instruction, related services, and educational programming.
  • Review educational practices, records, and documentation for compliance with Maine special education requirements and SPPS approval standards and identify areas requiring corrective action or improvement.
  • Support preparation for Maine DOE monitoring, program approval, desk audits, corrective action activities, and other regulatory reviews. Maine DOE identifies ongoing SPPS supervision, monitoring, and support as part of its oversight of approved programs.
  • Consult with school leadership regarding complex special education matters, including student programming, placement, educational access, service delivery, and movement along the educational continuum.
  • Review and provide guidance regarding the school's educational programming, curriculum alignment, assessment practices, instructional schedules, and documentation demonstrating access to the Maine Learning Results and specially designed instruction.
  • Support monitoring of related services and IEP service delivery to ensure required services are provided and appropriately documented.
  • Provide administrative consultation regarding special education policies, procedures, and practices and recommend updates necessary to maintain compliance.
  • Participate in identified IEP meetings, administrative consultations, Maine DOE meetings, or other student/program meetings when the expertise of a 030/035 administrator is needed.
  • Collaborate with the identified school leader, clinical leadership, teachers, related service providers, and other program leaders to support an integrated therapeutic and educational program. This fits particularly well for your program because Maine DOE describes SPPS day treatment programs as integrating behavioral, clinical, educational, emotional, medical, and social treatment to help students access education.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of consultation, supervision, recommendations, and administrative oversight as required by Maine DOE and organizational policy.
  • Immediately elevate identified regulatory, compliance, student safety, or IEP implementation concerns to appropriate school and organizational leadership.
