Job summary

Syracuse University is seeking a part-time instructor to teach 1 open section of Sociology 101 – Introduction to Sociology for the Winterlude session (3 credits). The course is online 12/16/26 - 1/8/27, with on-campus expectations and in-person teaching as required.

Salary is paid per credit hour; 8.5 months’ salary context applies. The successful candidate will have an MA in Sociology or related field, teach effectively, and demonstrate experience in course planning and student assessment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of an MA in Sociology or closely related discipline.
• ABD and PhD level from our program preferred; instructors who have previously taught for us are favored.

Responsibilities

• Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
• Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
• Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
• Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
• Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
• Meeting all designated class periods.
• Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
• Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
• Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
