Job summary

Milwaukee Area Technical College seeks part-time faculty for the Oak Creek Campus to teach Sheet Metal/Environmental Service Technician programs. The role requires apprenticeship completion or Local 18 JATC approval and five years of related work.

Teaching experience within five years and successful approval to teach are essential. Compensation is hourly per course hour with additional prep time; starting wage $40 per teaching hour plus paid prep time, non-negotiable unless market changes.

Qualifications

• Must have completed an apprenticeship in Sheet Metal or Environmental Service Technician; OR
• Letter from Local 18 Sheet Metal JATC approving appointment.
• Five years (10,000 hours) of work experience as an apprentice or Journey worker in Sheet Metal/Construction or Environmental Service Technician.
• One of: at least one year of work within last five years OR two years teaching Sheet Metal or Environmental Service Technician course work in the last five years.
• Approval to teach from an apprenticeship advisory committee.
• Journey-Level status in Sheet Metal/Construction or Environmental Service or approval from Local 18 Sheet Metal JATC.
• Standards of Teaching Excellence and MATC Career Essentials demonstrated in instruction.
• Email, telephone, computer proficiency (Gmail/Outlook, voicemail, MS Office/Google).
• Knowledge of Blackboard Ultra and online information management systems.
• Technology-based instructional delivery systems and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
• Manage the classroom/laboratory.
• Develop curriculum and monitor and revise to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
• Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
• Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
• Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
• Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
• Promote the education/training program, recruit and retain students, and market MATC.
• Support student organizations and activities.
• Develop relationships with business and industry.
• Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
• Maintain certification and ongoing professional development; stay current in field.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
