Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a part-time Recreation Aide to assist in planning, organizing and delivering meaningful activities for residents in our long-term care homes. The role emphasizes collaboration with the Recreation Manager and Executive Director and requires maintaining resident participation records and effective communication with families and staff.

Qualified applicants have a college diploma in recreation or related field, experience with seniors, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
• Experience working with seniors is required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license to transport residents by van (Class 4/ F).
• Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (within six months) or be willing to obtain one.
• Food Handlers Certification & Smart Serve Certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing and implementing meaningful programs for residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director.
• Maintain department records including assessments, evaluations and participation charts.
• Communicate effectively with residents, families, volunteers and staff about upcoming events.
• Attend in-service education to stay informed on elderly care trends.
• Participate in team meetings to plan activities aligned with residents' interests.
• Facilitate residents' outings and assess activity levels.
