Job summary

Stafford County is seeking a part-time Deputy Sheriff – School Protection Officer to safeguard schools, staff, and students during the school calendar year. The role requires Virginia DCJS Road/Patrol certification, prior road patrol experience, and the ability to work full school-day hours.

The position offers a partial benefits package, with hourly wages from $26.64 to $46.06, and a 1:1 credit for DCJS service up to 10 years or 50%, whichever is greater.

• Ability to analyze situations and take quick, safe actions.
• Must possess physical agility and endurance; skill in weapons handling.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned school and ensures a safe environment.
• Maintains situational awareness of visitors and activities.
• Intervenes and responds to threats toward staff, students, and visitors.
• Inspects the school daily to verify security measures.
• Responds to radio dispatches and calls for their school.
• Makes arrests when necessary and uses appropriate restraints.
• Subdues resisting individuals using approved methods.
• Participates in lockdown and emergency drills.
• Performs crime prevention duties and related tasks.
• Completes Daily Activity Reports.
