Job summary

The nurse will collaborate with teachers and parents, triage emergencies, maintain confidentiality, and work part-time under standing orders and school medical procedures. Prior pediatric or community health experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
• Valid and current CPR and AED certification from a recognized provider.
• Nursing experience in community or child health; pediatrics preferred.
• Understanding of child growth and development.
• Ability to think critically and react decisively in emergencies.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents while maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assess students’ daily visits and health status; provide care per standing orders.
• Administer first aid and emergency care.
• Maintain confidentiality and protect privacy.
• Dispense medications with proper documentation and authorization.
• Collaborate with teachers and parents regarding medical exclusions.
• Communicate health needs to school staff in English.
• Document health care in the student data management system.
• Promote Universal Precautions to maintain a healthy school environment.
