Job summary

Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) is seeking a School Nurse to deliver a comprehensive health services program for BCPS students on a 0.4 FTE basis (2 days a week). The nurse collaborates with school staff to integrate health services with the school program and provides health counseling to students and employees for acute illness and injuries.

Qualifications include an associate degree in nursing, RN license in Maryland, and CPR certification; a bachelor’s degree is preferred with a plan

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in nursing.
• Two years of professional nursing experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. Candidate(s) will be required to complete the bachelor’s degree in nursing within five years of employment.

Responsibilities

• Administers first aid for injury and illness. Administers medications and health care treatments.
• Identifies health barriers to student achievement and remediates barriers with staff and families.
• Provides and coordinates health care interventions, including emergency responses.
• Develops a plan of care for students with chronic health conditions.
• Assesses the health needs of the school community.
• Coordinates health matters between the health care provider, family, and the school.
• Conducts, coordinates, and follows-up health screening programs.
• Maintains school health records and ensures state health mandates compliance.
• Monitors spread of communicable diseases and implements control measures.
• Promotes a safe and orderly school environment.
• Provides health counseling and education to help students make informed health decisions.
