Job summary

The Archdiocese of St. Louis is seeking a Part-time Custodial Assistant to maintain a clean, safe school environment throughout the academic year.

Under the Head Custodian, you will perform routine cleaning duties to support daily operations and the wellbeing of students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include floor care, restrooms, waste disposal, room setup for events, and adherence to safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous custodial, janitorial, facilities, or maintenance experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a consistent work schedule.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, and maintain floors throughout the school building.
• Vacuum and shampoo carpets and rugs in classrooms, offices, and common areas.
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste.
• Dust, wipe, and polish windows, furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, hallways, classrooms, offices, and shared spaces.
• Replenish cleaning supplies and restroom products as needed.
• Assist with seasonal, deep-cleaning, and special maintenance projects as directed.
• Help set up and arrange rooms for school events, meetings, and activities when requested.
• Maintain custodial equipment and cleaning supplies in good working order.
• Follow established cleaning schedules and prioritize assigned tasks efficiently.
• Report maintenance concerns, repairs, or safety hazards promptly to the Head Custodian.
• Follow all school safety procedures and proper cleaning and sanitation protocols.
• Use cleaning products and equipment safely and according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Communicate scheduling needs, absences, or operational concerns with the Head Custodian and custodial team in a timely manner.
• Maintain a professional and respectful working relationship with faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
• Support the mission and values of the Catholic Church and the school.
• Contribute to a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment for the entire school community.
• Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and a spirit of service in all responsibilities.
