Job summary

Westerly Public Schools is seeking a Crossing Guard to assist students crossing streets to and from school at an assigned post in Westerly, RI. The role requires vigilance to direct traffic and ensure student safety, with independent work capability.

The position is part-time (FTE 0.5) with a starting date of Sep 2, 2026 and a pay rate of $17.10 per hour. Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather and be 18 or older.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
• High School/Trade School degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in crossing the streets going to and from school at an assigned post.
• Direct traffic at the school crossing.
• Provide a safe and secure crosswalk for all students.
• Enforce all district and school policies and rules in the operation of the crosswalk.
• Abide by and enforce all laws dealing with pedestrian traffic at the crosswalk.
• Report any problems or safety concerns arising at the assigned crosswalk to the Director of Transportation.
