Job summary

Manassas Park City Schools seeks a part-time School Bus Driver in the MPCS Transportation Department to safely transport students on scheduled routes and field trips. The role requires CDL with school bus and passenger endorsement, DOT medical clearance, and strict adherence to safety and district policies. Responsibilities include pre/post-trip checks, supervising students, and ensuring bus cleanliness and readiness.

6:00–8:45 a.m. and 1:15–4:30 p.m.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of driving experience with a valid driver’s license required.
• Must hold a valid Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a school bus and passenger endorsement issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Must successfully pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, drug and alcohol testing, and tuberculosis screening.
• Must meet all driving record requirements and maintain plus points on your DMV record, background investigation, CPR certification, and physical requirements mandated by Manassas Park City Schools and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations, including railroad-crossing procedures.
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English; Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
• Ability to perform moderate lifting of 50lbs and assist students on and off the bus, including those using mobility devices.

Responsibilities

• Transports passengers over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.
• Monitors students and other passengers during transit to maintain safety and ensure compliance with district policies.
• Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in safe operating condition and to comply with mandated guidelines.
• Advises students and other passengers regarding appropriate behavior to reinforce regulations and maintain passenger safety.
• Assists students and other passengers with safe loading and unloading from buses during both normal transport and emergency situations.
• Attends meetings, classroom training, safety meetings, in-service sessions, etc., to maintain skills and meet school bus driver certification requirements.
• Conducts emergency evacuation drills to ensure efficiency of procedures and compliance with mandated requirements.
• Secures students as assigned to ensure their safety during transport.
• Reports all bus accidents immediately to local law enforcement and the Director of Transportation or designee and assists students as needed.
• When assigned to daily, overnight, or weekend field trips, is responsible for directions to the destination, parking, bus safety while away from the site, and conducting oneself in a professional manner while representing the school system.
