Job summary

Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District is seeking a Substitute Bus Driver to transport students on preplanned routes and activities, following a strict schedule. The role requires CDL Class B with P and S endorsements, a good driving record, and the ability to pass DOT physicals and safety checks.

The driver will ensure student safety during loading, unloading, and transit, and may supervise students in absence of a monitor.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• CDL Class B with air brakes; endorsements P and S.
• Good driving record.
• Ability to pass DOT Physical health requirements.
• Must pass Drug and Alcohol testing as required by law for a CDL.
• Must pass criminal history and child abuse background checks.
• Ability to read maps and follow written and verbal directions.
• Organizational skills for scheduling daily routes and trips.
• Technology skills to use time clock systems and related tech.
• Ability to communicate via two-way radios and telephone.

Responsibilities

• Transport students to and from school on a preplanned route and schedule.
• Drive the bus safely and in compliance with traffic regulations.
• Ensure the safety of students during loading/unloading and transit.
• In the absence of a monitor, supervise students and report behavior as needed.
• Report mechanical concerns to the Transportation Director or mechanic.
• Coordinate schedules with Transportation Director for daily routes and trips.
• Maintain bus cleanliness and monitor safety equipment.
• Adhere to local, state, and federal transportation policies.
