Job summary

Utica Community Schools is seeking a School Aged Child Care Assistant (SACC) for Utica Community School District at various Sterling Heights locations. The position runs during the school year with morning and/or afternoon shifts; starting date is immediate.

You will welcome children, supervise activities, communicate with families, maintain safety and cleanliness, support ages 5–12, check children in, and adapt to changing schedules. This part‑time role pays $16–$18 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Pass criminal history and childcare background check
• CPR and first aid certification (maintained annually)
• High school graduate or equivalent; childcare experience preferred
• Evidence of teamwork, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills
• Evidence of accurate record-keeping
• Maintains positive relationships with parents/guardians and staff
• Ability to exercise good judgment per board policies and guidelines

Responsibilities

• Provide welcoming environment for children, parents, visitors and school community
• Assist and supervise children during activities; use positive discipline techniques
• Communicate with parents; address concerns and provide updates to families
• Maintain safe and secure environment for children and monitor activities
• Assist with developmentally appropriate activities for ages 5–12
• Check children into SACC and maintain staff-to-child ratios
• Ensure classroom appearance and cleanliness are maintained
• Maintain confidentiality regarding families and staff
• Observe and report significant behaviors to Directors or authorities
• Adjust daily schedule as child ratio changes
• Be available for additional hours during early dismissals or breaks
• Respond to emergencies when Director is absent
• Present a professional image at all times
• Adhere to district policies and licensing guidelines
• Frequent lifting and bending; work on floor with children
• Maintain sight and sound supervision
• Perform light cleaning duties
• Other duties as assigned
